  7. provides detailed, actionable developmental recommendations in the report

  8. allows the individual to track his or her progress over time

  9. minimizes "time drain" on the organization through efficient design features

  10. may be used for large groups (e.g., all management employees) or for individuals

  11. individual feedback sessions and group feedback/development workshops available

  12. can be customized to accomodate existing models of leadership management

Items and Scales

The behavioral items on the MLP fall into four domains which, together, contain sixteen scales:

LEADERSHIP PATTERNS
General Leadership, Informational Leadership, Competitional Leadership, Relational Leadership
PERSONAL RESOURCES
Conceptual Thinking, Emotional Resilience, Drive and Motivation
INTERPERSONAL BEHAVIOR
People Orientation, Assertive Social Presence
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Delegation, Decision Making, Project Management, Meeting Faciliation, Written Communication, Oral Communication, Listening Skills

Time Requirements and Rating Format

Each MLP rating form takes about ten minutes to complete. The rater is asked to indicate, anonymously on a seven-point scale, how frequently the ratee demonstrates each specific behavior. Every MLP packet contains optical scanning forms for as many as five supervisors, seven peers, and seven subordinates. There is also a self-rating form so that perceptions of self may be compared to perceptions by others.
